8 weeks!?

Can you believe it?  Eva and Carolyn are 8 weeks old.  Eight weeks and one day to be exact, but who is counting?  Seriously, time has to stop going by so quickly.  I keep asking these girls not too grow up too fast, but alas, here we are at 8 weeks and I feel like we just got home from the hospital.  Perhaps we should mark this occasion with a little video redux of the girls' lives thus far.  This first post has some choppy little bits of video.  If I were more ambitious, I would have spliced some of the video footage together and done some additional editing, but that obviously didn't happen.  Despite the poor/non-existent editing, you can see how sweet and tiny the girls were in their first couple of weeks and how much they have grown already.

The Early Days

This first video was taken before we left the hospital.  Carolyn is only a couple of days old, so she isn’t able to do much.  One thing she can do – hiccup, and look pretty darn cute in the process.

Homecoming

After four glorious days at Piedmont Hospital (the kind staff at Piedmont sure treat you right!), we made our way home with Eva and Carolyn with the help of Marmi and Aunt Sarah.  This is also the day that Leila and Fiona’s worst nightmare became a reality.  Just kidding… sort of.  I think this short video clip captures some of the madness of making the transition from the hospital to home, but all in all I would say the transition went pretty smoothly.

First Doctor’s Appointment

We may sound cool, calm, and collected in this video, but let me tell you, getting the girls in the car for the first time without the help of Marmi, Aunt Sarah, and Piedmont Hospital staff was pretty intimidating.  We pulled it off though for the girls’ first appointment with the pediatrician, Dr. Rudnicki.

E & C’s First Christmas

Marmi and Uncle Tommy made their way down to Atlanta to celebrate Christmas with us.  We had so much fun -- we ate a delicious meal prepared by David (crispy steaks, yum!), ate more pie than I care to admit, and opened stockings.  Of course, the girls slept through most of it.  Unfortunately the video won't upload for me.   Grrrr technology.  I can email you guys the video if you are interested, but here are some pictures that capture the essence of the occasion.

Visitors!

Apparently babies are a very effective tool for enticing family and friends to come visit.  We have had so many visitors since the girls arrived.  I wish I would have thought to take video of more of these visits.  I did get this video of Grandpa Donnie, Aunt Anna, and Uncle Erwan meeting the girls.  Aunt Elizabeth, Uncle Andrew, and Uncle Sam, you are officially on notice.  Video (and obviously lots of pictures) will be taken during your first visits.  Memories frozen in time!  Note: you may want to view this one in full screen mode since the video shows up so small on this screen (just click the little box icon in the lower right of the video box).

8 Weeks

Finally, we thought we would take a quick, real time video of what the girls are up to now-ish.  Exciting!

Playtime

Okay, now for bonus footage.  On occasion people have expressed regret or sympathy on our behalf for having twins.  I guess I kind of see where they are coming from and know these people mean well; nonetheless, I can’t help but feel a little annoyed… okay not annoyed, ENRAGED, by such nonsense.  I think these videos of the girls “playing” together speak for themselves.  These are some of my favorite moments that are unique to having twins.  They are only 2 weeks old in the first video, and they are already looking at and interacting with each other.  So in the words of Ebenezer Scrooge: Spare me your pity!  I have no need of it.  At least until they learn to walk…

  1. Happy eight weeks and a day, little girls! Y'all have had 25% more life experience since we were there; at this rate you'll catch up in no time.

  2. Thank you for sharing with us. You are an amazing mom.

Your last entry about the comments you hear on having twins brought back memories.

I remember when you were little and I would have you and Sarah in hand and expecting another, people would look at me and say..."you are having another baby?" or
to me the most ridiculous was "Don't you know what causes that?"

Through all the years, and a couple more wonderful expectations , I have thought, many times, I wish those insensitive people could see what an Amazing family I have. Siblings that truly look after each other and are there when one needs the other. I am very proud of all of you. Even though I still haven't figured out what caused it:)

No one should ever pity you for being twice blessed.

I love you, David and our amazing next generation.
